Over the years, I continue to hear teachers ask about the children's books that I connect to familiar folk songs and singing games. With that in mind, I've decided that my last post each month will be a children's literature connection to familiar folk literature. I hope this will add many wonderful titles to your library.
Louella Mae, She’s Run Away
Written by Karen Beaumont Alarcón
ISBN: 978-0-0-8050-3532-X
This title can be sung to “Oh, Where? Oh, Where Has My Little Dog Gone?”
Enjoy the story and keep singing. :)
I've done this one with my students last year and this year, and they love it. It's great to hear them predicting what rhyming word will complete the phrases. Just one more way to show the classroom teachers that you're working on literacy skills in music class.
ReplyDeleteThe students are always surprised at the ending! I usually do this story the week my students are reading a story about a pig in their class, and it's fun to see if they make the connection.
I even let them sing with a bad country accent for fun. It makes you want to plug your ears most of the time, but they seem to enjoy it!
