Materials: Fish puppets, paper “fish” connected to plastic putty knife pieces


SECTION A
• Move the puppet from the shoulders, knees, and head – following the melodic contour of the recording


SECTION B
• Move the puppet from floor to ceiling – following the melodic contour of the recording


KANGAROO

OBJECTIVE:  MOVE WITH A STORY
MOVEMENT: GAME

Music: “Kangaroo” from Carnival of the Animals – Saint-Saens
Materials: Kangaroo Bath Mitts, brown lunch bags, kangaroo pattern, scissors, glue sticks, additional crayons and ribbons to decorate lunch bags

Puppets are used to identify different sections in a piece of music. Melodic contour and form are objectives in the activity.

• Read the story "Josephine Wants to Dance" to the children.
• Each time Josephine is told “Kangaroos don’t dance . . . “ insert the movement below using puppets.

PUPPET MOVEMENT:
• Child 1 touches the floor with the puppet on one side of their partner and “jumps” over his partner’s head touching the other side of the floor.
• Child 1 gently touches his partner’s shoulders, alternating with each chord in the music.
• Child 2 touches the floor with the puppet on one side of their partner and “jumps” over his partner’s head touching the other side of the floor.
• Child 2 gently touches his partner’s shoulders, alternating with each chord in the music.
• Both children touch the floor with their puppets and “jump” over their partner’s head touching the other side of the floor.
• Both children gently touch their partner’s shoulders, alternating with each chord in the music.
• As the story continues, the children repeat the movements with puppets.
