WALTZ OF THE FLOWERS
OBJECTIVE: BEAT COMPETANCY
MOVEMENT: USING FINGER PUPPETS
Music: “Waltz of the Flowers” from The Nutcracker Suite – Tchaikovsky
Materials: “flower” stalks, butterfly finger puppets
In this activity, puppets are used to identify different sections in a piece of music.
A Section – Butterflies create a circle around the flowers.
• Take 8 steps away from the flowers following lead butterfly.
• Tap each shoulder twice – repeat action two times.
• Take 8 steps back towards the flowers.
• Tap each shoulder twice – repeat action two times.
B Section – Create a circle around the flowers.
• Take 3 steps CW – flowers “grow” or stand up on beat 4 while butterflies dip – 4 times.
• Take 3 steps CCW – flowers “grow” or stand up on beat while butterflies dip – 4 times.
C Section – Bridge – improvise movement or follow movement of lead butterfly (teacher).
